Sailing Children's Lives Stupidly Risked

The sailing community has long held a tenet that the accuracy of weather forecasts is abysmal. That attitude led to near disaster on Australia Day, January 26th 1995. Forty-four Heron class yachts were competing in a state title heat at the Largs Bay Sailing Club located in a western suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. Eighty-eight lives were put at risk, almost half of them children.
